Recently, Team STEALTH hosted local Scouts Troop 745 at the Cedarcrest High School shop to work on their Robotics Badge. After talking with participants, it was well regarded. So what happened?

The meeting started with a flag ceremony held in the Commons. Then Team STEALTH delivered a safety briefing on hazards you may encounter while working with robots and being aware of injuries that could come from participation in robotics activities and competitions.

STEALTH shared how robotics is a major part of our industry post high school, including how bots are best used. They explored similarities and differences between remote controlled devices, telerobots, and autonomous robots as well as different methods that robots are used to move themselves other than wheels and tracks.

After that, STEALTH was able to discuss major fields of robotics and their importance to robotics development, showing off specific advancements that have been made from robotics in the past.

After these discussions, it was time for things to get more hands on. STEALTH brought out the “Ring Bot” (a robot from a previous FTC competition that can pick up rings, and shoot them accurately). STEALTH also brought out team Smelt 22152’s recent WA state finalist FTC bot and showed how parts function together to make a competitive bot for competition.

The final discussion walked through the different categories of FIRST Washington competitions. Team STEALTH currently participates in FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition events, and there is also FIRST Lego League for middle school students. Finally, all attendees shared gratitude and ended with a flag ceremony. In all, Team STEALTH was able to teach about 20 scouts about robotics and help them earn their the Robotics Merit Badge. Good job STEALTH and Scout Troop 745!
